20 Great Reasons to be an Entrepreneur
I don’t like introductions to lists because the title is supposed to be descriptive… so let’s get to it:
20. You want to stick it to “the man”… or woman. You want to show your boss “HA! See this? Yeah, well now the rims on my car cost more than your entire net worth!”
19. To get away from the people who actually care whether or not I put “… or woman” after saying “the man.” There is always that person in your office that you have to totally avoid saying jokes to - as an entrepreneur, it is your employees’ job to laugh.
18. You can have competitions with other young entrepreneurs to see who gets on the most “young entrepreneurs” slide shows and articles.
17. Because you are the only one that truly understands the beneficial properties of having one Xbox 360 for every 4 employees. It improves efficiency! Promise!
16. You get to make an “I started out of my garage with no electricity, food, or water - and built my way up” story.
15. Your retirement plan includes celebrating your 35th birthday.
14. Your friends will be jealous of your success.
13. You have the freedom to show up in shorts to a job interview - and not hire them because they are wearing a suit.
12. Degree? What degree?
11. Because Dilbert comics aren’t funny, and everyone in your office seems to be obsessed with it. It’s not that you don’t have a sense of humor - it’s that office humor makes you sick, and seeing a dissatisfied low level employee say the same dry jokes on everyone’s cubicle gets very old and ironic.
10. In the beginning, you set all of the deadlines.
9. It is different from anything else you have done before… except that time when you walked naked into a frozen lake. That was very different…
8. You have the freedom to be creative. You can think so far outside of the box, you’re hitting yourself in a parallel universe.
7. There will always be something new to do - either with creating new networks or improving your business plan, there is always something. This is a challenging career move, but it is rewarding.
6. 2 words. Job security.
5. You will have something to call your own, and be able to build a team around it.
4. You gain the respect of professionals, not just for making a successful business, but for working hard and persevering.
3. You get to see all of your ideas materialize in front of you. You grow it, then turn it into something that could be very profitable.
2. Anyone can do it.
Now it’s time for you to create the number 1 reason to become an entrepreneur.

Great list, Jim. Sad that some entrepreneurs not only reverse the order, but never even reach your first/their last 7 and that your number 20, or some version of it, is their number 1.
BTW, Would you please explain to a dinosaur exactly what “Bosshatch” means:)

OMG, does that mean someone laid an egg?
(Sorry, Jim, I just couldn’t resist that:)

I will answer that if you can answer this:
What came first - the entrepreneur or the egg?

The rooster is second ’cause he’s cock of the walk and the hen is first ’cause he couldn’t have done it without her. That makes the egg third, direct from the hen and your poor little entrepreneur a distant fourth when he finally hatches.
Having watched a number of them hatch during twenty years in Silicon Valley I can tell you that it’s an exhausting and often painful process. Fortunately, the hen and the rooster usually have the sense to stay out of it (other than being a potential source of funding).
