…not to be confused with “Baked.”

I would like to apologize to my wonderful, sexy, brilliant, amazing, loyal readers - it is the first test week of the semester. I have been taking a test, will have one tomorrow, the next day, the next day, the next week, and maybe several more on top of that. However! <— Note the boldness of the “However” … HOWEVER, I am learning some pretty awesome stuff. I never knew I would actually enjoy applied probability.
A good topic to start this post off with is the topic of testing. What? You hate tests? Don’t we all! Every year I hear the same thing - “It’s the first test… don’t sweat it - you can always do better the next round.” As encouraging as that sounded my Freshman year, it sounds like the dumbest thing anyone can say during my 4th year in school. So what’s the problem with this? Is poor performance motivation to become motivated?
There is a line one should draw between optimism and realism. Optimistically speaking, you may do better next time. Realistically, you set yourself up for failure. When you run a business, you will not want to accept your losses and hope for a better run next round. You want to start strong and end strong. Nothing is more satisfying, rewarding, and (sometimes) profitable than complete security.
Holy obvious, Batman! How do you maximize your chances of success, though? Simple… probability calculations! That is for another day, though, I am afraid.
Either way, I have a megaton of material waiting in the ranks, thanks to Kelly from Tax Girl - you’re the best! I am also reading an interesting journal called “Journal of Business Venturing,” which I’ll share with everyone down the road. I have to write a 5-10 page response paper on it anyways - I will post it up for everyone to read to his/her children before they go to bed - it’ll be a real knockout (oh, that was bad… real bad…).
