Should Advertising and Sales Sleep Together?

Alright, the topic isn’t as sexy as it sounds, but this question was brought up after listening to an incredibly obnoxious ad on the radio.  Should a salesperson sell as obnoxiously as the advertisement for the company?  Think of all of the annoying, screaming car ads.  How safe is it to assume that there is a formulaic method of selling the cars to each individual potential customer?  Does it appeal to one single demographic?  What do you think?
