Sick Day: The Sickening Result of Inevitability
So I’m not sick. I don’t know what was going on last night, but I was running a fever. Today I’m fine… and I’m not complaining. Coincidentally, it was my intention to write an article about germs spreading around the workplace even before I felt like crap.
You know how it happens… one person gets sick, recklessly coughing EVERYWHERE, and eventually passes the love onto you. Here’s my carefully-drawn diagram:

That first dot is whoever is sick. Each line represents someone spreading it. Discovering that it just became exponentially larger was when I quit drawing lines (well, it didn’t even take me that long). So how can you be more aware of this? I’m not about to tell you what to do because I’m not a doctor… and if your parents didn’t teach you hygiene, you’re on your own.
- When you cough, cover your damn mouth
- When you see someone coughing, tell him/her to cover his/her damn mouth
- Sanitize your hands after you cough
- Stop touching your face… you know you bite your nails
So maybe it isn’t as easy as I made it sound. You don’t have to be rude to people when they cough all over you, but when they are spraying you with their flu jelly - who cares?
Remember, taking days off because you are actually sick is never as fun as you imagine, unfortunately.
