You NEED To Be Using Twitter
Last week I talked about getting out there and networking as I believe it’s one of the most important things a young entrepreneur should be doing. I know it’s helped me out tremendously.
One of the ways that you can start networking with top notch entrepreneurs immediately is to get on a Social Networking site called Twitter. I wrote about Twitter on my blog entitled, “What Is Twitter,” about a month ago and since then I’ve met a lot of great entrepreneurs that are just as excited to be networking as well.
Twitter is a micro blogging site that allows you to join “conversations,” follow people that you want to connect with, and the thing is, you can only send “tweets” (as they call them) of up to 140 characters.
Some might say, well that’s not a lot. I’m here to tell you, I think it’s brilliant. Have you ever been in a conversation where someone was just talking forever and it was completely draining you? I’ve been there many times! What I love most about Twitter is that you can choose what conversations you wanna follow and you can even block the one’s that are annoying you.
Here are some of the benefits of Twitter
- You will get a “pulse” of what’s hot and new in your niche and in general
- You will be able to meet some pretty influential people if you use the right steps
- Be a great way to connect with some of your friends, customers, or collegues very effectively.
- You can control a conversation and get people to start following you and your blog
Now here’s some advice before you start jumping on Twitter and interruping conversation.
- Add Value to Coversations first in Social Media Marketing before you try to control them
- Don’t just add everyone, add the people that are relevant to what you’re up to (don’t be spammy)
- When tweeting, give some great tips because people will always love tips.
That’s it for now on Twitter. Lets try to follow each other on there and connect!
Put your Twitter URL in the comment section below. I’ll start. Mine is:

Make sure to add each other and start connecing - it’s fun I promise!

Twitter has the chance to be a game-changer, not just another social network. A more reliable structure and more features (but not too many to lose the simplicity) would be UGE (silent H).

Hi all! I’m Stacey Monk, founder of a startup nonprofit called Epic Change. We’re working on developing a new model to fund grassroots global change agents, and our first project is rebuilding a primary school with a partner Tanzania.
I too love Twitter, and look forward to hopefully setting up our local partners with Twitter accounts when I head back to Africa this summer. You can follow my tweets at http://twitter.com/staceymonk. I’ll try to keep it interesting - and I’ll definitely keep it real :)
Thanks - look forward to meeting you in the Twitterverse!

Twitter has proven invaluable for research, making contacts with “inaccessible” people and getting a high quality stream of what’s new.

Great post about Twitter!
I too am a Twitter fan (or maybe an Twitter addict?) — as you point out, it is so easy, and so snappy, gets each of us to focus.

If folks are not using Twitter to connect with other folks who under normal circumstances they’d NEVER connect with then they are losing out BIG TIME!
Twitter allows the ability to leverage 140 characters into one of the most powerful tools we’ve ever had in history. That tool is communication. To be able to communicate with others I PERSONALLY would never run into in the streets or speak with at seminars and workshops because we all flow in different circles and what have you has been nothing short than AMAZING!
You can hook up with me via Twitter by following me @markress on Twitter.
